Jay-Z and Eminem Add B.o.B to Detroit Concerts

B.o.B was fortunate enough to land Eminem as a guest on his debut album 'B.o.B Presents: The Adventures of Bobby Ray,' but now the ATL rapper will take it a step further when he opens for Em and Jay-Z at Detroit's Comerica Park on Sept. 2 and 3.

The shows are already being dubbed the "World Series of Hip-Hop." With the addition of Bobby Ray, Jay-Z will still open up for Eminem in his hometown, while the Detroit emcee will return the favor at the second set of concerts at Yankee stadium in New York the following weekend.

Kanye West Adding Feature Film to Album Package

A source working Kanye West has revealed that the renegade Chicago rapper is working on an accompanying movie to 'Dark Twisted Fantasy,' his new album.

Ye himself tweeted about being on the set of a movie last week, while pictures from the set found their way to the Web on Wednesday (September 1). "Last day in Prague," he wrote. "We've shot some good stuff so far ... really good ... NO! I mean REALLY GOOD!" West later tweeted about finishing a day of shooting. "Just wrapped for the day. Been shooting 16 hour days. ... I'm so excited. ... It's like a child's delusions become reality!"

In anticipation of his new album, West has been heavy in the studio even vowing to drop new music every week on what he calls 'G.O.O.D. Fridays' -- named after his record label. It is unclear whether or not the movie will be a cinematic adaptation of the music. If so, it wouldn't be the first time that West has delved into film. His last album '808s and Heartbreaks' featured the Spike Jones directed short film 'We Were Once A Fairytale.' West's new album will hit stores in November.

'F--- You,' Cee-Lo's comeback single, has been nothing short of a sensation since its release two weeks ago. The poppy crooner is fueling the hype more with a new stylish video for his anthemic hatred of gold diggers.

The official video definitely goes with a retro feel not all too dissimilar from the television series 'Mad Men' or stereotypical '50s Rat Pack persona. Sure, we get grown-up Cee-Lo -- looking rather sharp in a plaid jacket getup -- but there's also a series of Cee-Los throughout the years.

RZA famously sampled the Beatles' 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps' on the Wu-Tang Clan single 'My Heart Gently Weeps,' Now, he's ready to pay more respect to the biggest band of all-time.

The hip-hop veteran will take part in a tribute to Beatles guitarist John Lennon in Los Angeles on Oct. 1 and 2, where he will share the stage with John Lennon's widow Yoko Ono, Lady Gaga, Iggy Pop and more. The shows, headlined by Ono's We Are Plastic Ono Band, will take place at L.A.'s Orpheum Theater a week before what would have been John Lennon's 70th birthday (October 9).

Drake’s ‘Thank Me Later’ Goes Platinum

After just ten weeks on the charts, Drake's acclaimed debut, 'Thank Me Later,' has finally gone platinum.

Though the Canadian rap phenom prematurely thanked fans last month for helping him reach the million mark, after adding 20,200 to his grand total of 1,013,700 this past week, his platinum status is now official. Standing high atop the Billboard Top 200 at Number 18, Drake is only the second rapper to sell more than 1 million units this year, after Eminem's 'Recovery,' which is already 2x platinum.

"Thank you to everyone who allowed us to go platinum on a debut album! WOW," Drake tweeted back on July 22, when he had only sold 833,100 units.

In the end, Drake is ironically the one doing all the thanking. 'Thank Me Later' is in stores now.

Fat Beats Examines Factors Leading to Its Closure

Fat Beats -- a mecca of hip-hop vinyl and true friend to independent artists -- will shut its New York City doors on Saturday evening for the last time. It's a bittersweet moment for hip-hop fans all over the world. While the company will maintain its online presence, label and distribution arm, the retail closing is indicative of something much bigger. Rap fans and DJs are no longer buying albums like they once were and are just as easily allowing online communities and piracy to replace the sensation of going into the real world and discovering music through a community retail shop. The BoomBox got with Fat Beats owner and president Joseph Abajian (aka DJ Jab) to discuss the store's closing.

"The reality is Fat Beats retail hasn't really been the store that I've known in years," Abajian tells The BoomBox. "For the last three years, we've been kind of just keeping it going because I have a business plan to create a huge hip-hop retail operation. Now, we're just trying to salvage what we have. It's not hurting me that we're closing. I was hurt years ago when music went to buy Nike sneakers."

Mos Def Encourages Science Education

Mos Def wants to send students off into space. The Brooklyn emcee is partnering wit NASA and singer Goapele to help promote science education at the I.S.I.S. Science & Culture Festival in Oakland, Calif. this weekend. Mos will appear alongside astronaut Leland Marvin and conduct a holographic presentation in the Cabot Space and Science Center to educate youth on pursing higher education in the field of science and technology.

"Leland Melvin and myself are working with the Instituting Science in Schools Program, sponsored by NASA," Mos said in a statement. "I'm just here to give the young people some inspiration, some positive encouragement and some good information about science, technology, creativity and discovery and how to use math, science and information to make a positive impact and changes on the world around us."

T.I. and Tiny Arrested for Possession of Marijuana

Just a month after making it official and tying the knot, T.I. and wife Tiny were arrested last night for "possession of a controlled substance." According to TMZ, L.A. County Sheriff's deputies pulled over the couple while they were driving in a Maybach on Sunset Boulevard around 10:30 PM on Wednesday (Sept. 1). The deputies searched the vehicle and eventually arrested Tip and Tiny after smelling marijuana in the vehicle.

This recent arrest could cause some serious legal issues for the rap star, who's currently on probation after pleading guilty to weapons charges in 2009. T.I. served seven months behind bars at a Federal Correction Institution in Arkansas last year after copping a deal in his highly publicized weapons possession case. T.I. -- real name Clifford Harris -- and Tiny are in custody right now. Bail was reportedly set at $10,000.

T.I.'s latest big screen project 'Takers,' debuted at the box office in the No. 1 spot and the rapper is scheduled to release his highly anticipated post-prison album 'King Uncaged' later this month. We caught up with Tip as he explained that 'King Uncaged' is "unapologetic" and all about "celebrating the moment."

Young Buck’s Former Business Manager Denies Wrongdoing

As Young Buck readies his lawsuit against 50 Cent and the rest of his former G-Unit crew, his former business manager has responded to allegations that his negligence led to Buck's recent financial troubles.

On August 3, the IRS raided Buck's house in Tennessee, claiming he owed close to $300,000 in back taxes. "This IRS situation came about because I trusted accountants, lawyers, and managers to handle my business for me while I focused on making music," Buck, born David Brown, said in a statement about the raid. "From now on, I am going to stay on top of my own business."
